I don't know what it is about January that leaves me in this weird state. The cold, the dark? Anyway, the only remedy I know is some light reading. Funny, sad, drama-filled, but definitely plot driven. None of this "cerebral" stuff, I just want to wrap up in my snuggie and be entertained for a few hours. |

Shiver
A new genre has caught the attention of mainstream America - vampire & werewolf novels. We can thank Stephenie Meyer and her alluring story of an inter-species romance for that. It’s not that she had a unique idea or anything, just that “those” novels were for hardcore sci-fi and fantasy fans. Thanks to her, now anyone can read one of these novels without feeling ashamed. The hype of the twilight-esque “dark romance” novels didn’t only attract love-sick adolescents, it also attracted a new set of YA authors with their own stories to tell.A friend of mine lent me the book Shiver a few weeks ago and I got sucked in immediately. After being attacked as a child by a pack of wolves, Grace becomes fascinated with the wolves, especially one. Little does she know her wolf, Sam, also watches her. When the two finally come face to face, as humans, they realize that they’d sacrifice anything to stay together.
